Her work focuses on issues of marriage, separation, divorce and stepfamily living as well as concerns about family alcoholism and substance use/abuse. She founded Stepfamily Associates in 1980 and has been offering workshops, support groups and professional consultation ever since. In addition to founding Stepfamily Associates she was one of the originators of the model for the elementary guidance program of the Brookline Public Schools and a founder of Equinox Hospice in Brookline. Educated at Mount Holyoke College, she received a Master's degree from Columbia University's Teachers College in counseling and elementary school guidance and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Northeastern University in counseling psychology. She trained at the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy and at McLean Hospital. There she worked as an Assistant-in- Psychology at the Appleton Outpatient Clinic (later re-named the Alcohol and Drug Outpatient Clinic). Judy is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts and is nationally certified as a Group Therapist.
